I swear I’m not doing an “Eat-pray-love” trip but I’m ending my year in Bali! ? I arrived in time to see the start of their New Year’s celebration! Locals make ogoh-ogohs, giant demonic statues and parade them around town, finally burning them. This symbolizes cleansing the village of bad spirits for the new year.
The following day is Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence. From 6am to 6am the next day, everyone must stay in their house and no lights are allowed. All roads, stores, and even the airport is closed! This is said to trick the bad spirits into thinking Bali is deserted. So happy I was here to see it all!
